Subject: Preserve data when upgrading or running setup
For products:
SYMPTOMS
When running setup for installing an upgraded version or to
reinstall a previous installation, you may want to ensure that the data is
preserved during the process.
CAUSE
The data you have entered into MDBCompact, being the
databases you are managing and the settings for them, is maintained in a file
and can be overwritten during the setup process.
RESOLUTION
Prior to running the setup program, make a copy of the data
file so that it can be restored later.
- Locate
the data file named “compact.mdb”. It is located in the folder that
MDBComapct was installed to. The default location is “c:\program
files\mdbcompact”.
- Copy
the file and paste it to another folder of your choice. This will be your
backup copy.
- Run
the setup program.
- Open
MDBCompact and see if the data is still present. If so, then there is no
need to continue and you may delete your backup copy. If there are no
records showing, follow the next steps to restore the backup copy.
- Locate
the backup copy you just pasted. Copy it and paste it to the the folder
that MDBComapct was just installed to. The default location is “c:\program
files\mdbcompact”.
- When
prompted if you want to overwrite the same file, choose Yes.
- Open
MDBCompact and the data should now be restored.
