Subject: You receive an error message before the evaluation period has ended stating “Your evaluation period has ended.”

For products:

SYMPTOMS

You receive the following error message before the evaluation period has ended:

“Your evaluation period has ended. You must register to continue using this software. Do you want to register now?"

And the program will not run normally.

CAUSE

When the program starts, program setting are not successfully retrieved. This can be from a number of factors. The Installation did not complete, the settings are not accessible, or they have been removed.

If the message is received immediately after installation during the first time the program is run, the settings files were not installed correctly.

In all other situations the settings files are no longer in their installed locations or file permissions have been changed.

RESOLUTION

Before running the setup program after an installation was completed, see article MDBC101.

Restart the machine and run the setup program again. If prompted, choose to repair the installation. In some circumstances Windows 2000 and newer versions will not allow the setup program to install the settings files. Login as the Administrator or a user with administrative privileges and run the setup program.

STATUS

Latest MDBCompact exe has improved ability to detect program settings and provide error messaging.

MORE INFORMATION

The setup program requires Windows Installer 1.2 to be installed on the target machine. See Microsoft Knowledgebase article Q292539 for more information and obtaining the latest Windows Installer files for your operating system.

Windows 95 and 98 versions may require DCOM95.exe and MDAC_TYP.EXE to be installed prior to running MDBCompact setup. Locate these files in the extracted files location and run them.
